Christianity is a bad thing.
Before we start, let's make a few things clear.
What do I mean by "Christianity"?
- Churches such as the Roman Catholic Church, the Anglican Church,
the Baptist Church, the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day
Saints (Mormon), the Salvation Army;
- Institutions like CAFOD (Catholic Fund for Overseas Development)
and Christian Aid, who bring religion into humanitarian need;
- Christian schools and other educational establishments which
channel the minds of those entrusted to their care.
I do not claim that what I have to say applies to all organised
religions. But there are threads common to most, and the rope they
weave is a stranglehold around the minds of the world.
What do I mean by "bad"?
Imagine every particle in your body going into reverse and the universe
exploding at the speed of light.
Well, okay, maybe not that bad... :-)
BAD, because it causes grief and misery in the world;
WORSE, because at the same time it claims to do the
opposite.
BAD, because it misleads and mistreats,
by its very nature; WORSE, because it encourages
people who would not otherwise to do the same.
Am I saying there is no God?
No. But I am putting salient facts forward and inviting you to make an
educated decision for yourself. I really want you think about it. Try
to put aside preconceptions, and look afresh at the evidence.
Some definitions.
- A Christian
- This is a matter of self-identity. Other people cannot make you into a Christian, or tell you that you are one. If you self-identify as Christian, then you are Christian. If you don't then you're not. It's as simple as that.
- A REAL Christian
- Some people draw distinctions between their own brand of Christianity and that adopted by others (usually with whom they disagree). Are the only "real" Christians the born again Christians? Or those who have no possessions and live communally? Those who can claim that their leaders come in a direct line from St. Peter? Or those who take every word in the Bible as law?
Such distinctions are pointless, since Christianity is a matter of self-identity. It helps that some people tag such things as "born again" or "fundamentalist" on to the word though, if only to discern more precisely what they believe.
