okay, i'm sorry, i haven't updated for a while here. it's just been a busy time, okay?
much happening, including two more blasts from the past from the fabulous
friendsreunited - hello
jo and
mel!
but that's not why i'm here. instead i would like to share a story from columbia which gave me pause. there's a full treatment of the story on the
bbc news site. briefly, though:
norberto perez is a columbian policeman. he might be a good guy, he might be a bad guy, i don't know. he was, however, kidnapped two years ago by a revolutionary group and has been held hostage ever since as they try to trade him for one of their incarcerated members.
andres felipe perez is his twelve year old son. he has cancer and is close to death. it is thought that a kidney transplant would help him live a little longer, but the only donor believed to be suitable is his father. in any event he is thought to have only weeks to live.
more than 2000 ordinary people have offered themselves to be taken hostage in place of norberto. 2000. wow.
made me think, anyway.
